The CNC Plasma cutting machine we use, works with a common PC.

An image or drawing is imported into the CNC cutting software.

The fastest way is with a DXF file on a 3 ½” floppy, CD, a USB memory stick or e-mailed to us then imported into the program. We can take a drawing exported as an AutoCad DXF or AutoCad DWG file.

CLIPART can usually be exported as a DXF file.

A project saved as a JPEG file is next. A scanned image becomes a BITMAP file. Both have to be changed into VECTOR files through conversion software. The BITMAP conversion lines come out squiggly and or double  to a greater or lesser degree. These lines have to be smoothed out with editing tools. The more lines a drawing has the longer it takes to clean up.

One good aspect of the computer is once the original drawing is saved in the program it can be used again or modified for future use by anyone.

Part shown on computer screen. The part's outline is what will be converted to a cut path to controll the plasma torch.

Part on screen is now converted to a cut path. Note the gap at the right. This gap allows the part to stay attached to the plate. The part can then be broken out of the plate off the table. (It was decided not to cut out the holes)
